Stephen and Krista said "I Do" in a beautiful colorful church wedding in Washington DC.
These two met on Bumble and decided to incorporate bees into their decor as a nod to their love story. Their colorful acrylic seating chart said "Please Bee Seated", we used gold bees to style their detail photos, there were little bees on their wooden ring boxes, and even Krista's wooden earrings included some hex shapes as a nod to honeybees.
Vibrant Church Wedding Reception
Stephen and Krista chose to get married at the church where Stephen grew up attending: New Hampshire Avenue Gospel Chapel. They totally transformed the church sanctuary and the gymnasium into a gorgeous colorful space for their celebration. There were so many fun DIY elements to their wedding that made this happen including the table florals, signage, ceremony backdrop, and reception set up, to the food and dessert that was served.
Getting Ready Details
The bridal party got ready at the church and Krista did her own makeup. Stephen even wrote a sweet little note to Krista with a colorful crayon telling her how much he loved her and how excited he was to see her. Stephen wore a cool blue plaid vest and some funky yellow taco socks... fitting with how much he loves to cook. There were sweet moments when Krista's mama helped her into her dress and lots of laughter and excitement too.
Colorful Washington DC Wedding Details
Krista and her bridesmaids had the coolest wooden floral bouquets from Southern Blooms Co., and the groom and groomsmen had wooden pins in lieu of traditional boutonnieres. Their florals featured pink, orange, blue, and white in deep vibrant hues. This is a great example that you can do whatever you want on your wedding day!
A First Look to Remember
After they got ready, we headed over to Brookside Gardens to capture Stephen and Krista's first look and all of their bridal party portraits. Their first look was so heartfelt and Stephen couldn't stop looking at Krista and telling her how beautiful she was. We loved being able to head over to Brookside Gardens to capture their portraits especially knowing that the church didn't have too many options for us to capture their large bridal party. Don't be discouraged if you choose a smaller church venue- we can always find local places to go to capture those images you want.
The Colorful Church Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony was full of precious moments like Krista's dad doing a little slow dance with her at the end of the aisle before handing her off to Stephen... who also got a slow dance from his soon to be father-in-law! Stephen also made everyone laugh when he dramatically ate a breath mint before their official married kiss.
Introducing Mr. & Mrs. Bryan
After the ceremony, we snuck outside to capture some more portraits of the new couple. I snuck behind them quietly while they walked and talked and enjoyed the first few minutes of being married. At the reception guests enjoyed a full taco bar with all the toppings you could imagine, toasts were shared, the bride and groom shared their first dance, and then they personally served each guest a slice of pie for dessert after they got a fun portrait with each guest.
The Send-Off
Their car being decorated was a fun surprise to end their evening as they left to head off to their honeymoon. We will never forget this sweet day for this even sweeter couple.
